Newark and Sherwood's most famous inhabitant was, of course, Robin Hood, a name associated with many local towns and villages. For example, Edwinstowe, where Robin Hood and Maid Marian were said to have married; Blidworth with Will Scarlett's burial place and Maid Marian's cottage; and of course Sherwood Forest itself.
HHP is close to two historic market towns - Newark-on-Trent (7 miles from HHP) with its Civil War connections and the pretty little town of Southwell, famous as the birthplace of the Bramley apple and with an imposing Norman minster (www.southwellminster.org.uk).
Southwell is about two miles from HHP with a range of restaurants, cafés and a good range of shops. Surrounding villages are served by a good range of pubs.
