HHP is not just a place to live. Residents also work together to:

  • Promote sustainable living to a wide audience.
  • Promote the production and efficient use of domestic energy requirements using renewable systems – including use of electric vehicles.
  • Promote affordable, ultra-low energy dwellings.
  • Demonstrate viability of non-CO2 emission dwellings.
  • Demonstrate that ordinary families and individuals can take responsibility for and contribute to reducing the output of greenhouse gases that create global warming.

National governments are striving to find methods to achieve reductions in CO2 emissions and energy consumption. Many countries, such as the US, are finding it very difficult to commit themselves to specific targets - the Copenhagen conference being indicative of this paralysis. The UK Government however has set challenging targets. Hockerton Housing Project aims to demonstrate how these targets can be met, without compromising modern comforts and amenities.
