HHP has been running tours since 1997 before the homes were even finished. Over the years we have we have fine-tuned tours to meet the needs of as many people as possible and developed them to incorporate new aspects to the Project, such as renewable energy systems and the construction of the Sustainable Resource Centre.
We run different types of tours based on the interest and experience of visitors:
(A) Introductory Tour
(B) Technical Tour
(C) Customized tours
Guided tours are usually incorporated in all HHP events. For instance Sustainable Community workshops include a introductory tour and Master classes include relevant aspects of the technical tour.
Tours are always led by a resident Project member and normally last between two and four hours.
Tours cover subjects such as: sustainable building design, renewable energy systems, autonomous water services, sustainable transport, self-sufficiency and issues involving living and working together.
Specifically all Guided Tours normally include:
• Tour of the project site highlighting renewable energy systems (wind & solar), autonomous water systems, and key elements of landscaping
• Tour of one of the project members homes highlighting key environmental features, and ultra low energy building design
• AV presentation in the Sustainable Resource Centre, showing history of the development and explanation of how homes work
• Small exhibition and light refreshments.
The Sustainable Resource Centre is itself an innovative sustainable building with zero-heating demand, meeting zero carbon and autonomous standards.
